“Larks” and “Robins” have inundated dance floors across the country…which is why the MFS Logo Committee chose Pileated Woodpeckers for our new logo.
Montanans are a breed apart.
MFS's New Logo!
All joking aside, our new logo grew out of a collaboration between the committee (Mike Forbes, Roy Curet, and Robert Logan) and one of our talented, young Kalispell contra dancers, Violet Mellin. Violet plays mandolin in the band, “Frog Pond,” along with her brother and father, and has just started high school. She came up with the initial design tapping her art and music backgrounds. Over many months the logo evolved and Violet incorporated changes suggested by the committee. Mike was our graphics point person working with Violet and contributed some of his own ideas.

More than a half dozen graphic artists were contacted over 18 months. Some were busy, and some just didn't feel comfortable designing a logo. Fortunately the committee found two artists, Violet, and Ann Carp (Sideways Gaze Art & Sign) who agreed to work with us. We were very happy with the designs put forth by both Violet and Ann. In fact, the custom font came from one of Ann's designs. On August 6, 2024, the MFS Board voted in favor of Violet's design for our official logo. We hope you like it!
